Virtuix Omni is the first and only omni-directional treadmill that is affordable ($499), compact, and enables users to move freely and naturally in virtual reality. When used in tandem with head mounted displays (like the smash hit Oculus Rift), users will enjoy a much more immersive and engaging experience than ever before. Only the Virtuix Omni allows for walking, running, jumping and crouching in 360°, so you can steer your avatar with intuitive motion and enjoy the most thrilling workout available.

In June 2013 we launched a Kickstarter campaign with the goal of raising $150,000. We blew past our goal in a record-setting 3.5 hours, and a mere month later the Omni had been backed by 3,249 people, contributing a total of $1,109,351 and proving beyond a doubt that demand for the Omni extends far beyond the hardcore gaming audience. Virtuix is uniquely positioned to become a major platform for the next global medium.

Omni is an elegant solution to a problem that the entertainment and gaming industry has faced for 20 years now: how can we move naturally in the virtual world while confined within the limited space of our living room or office?

There have been countless devices built over the years attempting to solve this problem, but until now none have succeeded. True virtual reality cannot be experienced while sitting down, pushing buttons on a keyboard or gamepad.

Full virtual reality requires the Omni. Enter the future of gaming.

The release of affordable head mounted displays and low-cost sensor technologies has brought the decades-old dream of full VR closer than ever, and we’ve got the final piece of the puzzle: the Omni. Only with Omni can you traverse virtual worlds with both your mind and body.

The Omni will free gamers from passive, seated gameplay, unleashing the full potential of virtual reality gaming with the Oculus Rift and future head mounted displays. Gaming on a keyboard, mouse or gamepad while seated pales in comparison to the intense, fun experience of actually running and jumping in games. The incredible success of our crowdfunding campaign and subsequent online pre-orders has proven that the Omni technology is the next evolution of immersive gaming and entertainment.

The key to Omni’s functionality is the low-friction, grooved surface and corresponding shoes. The shoes have a sole configuration that keeps you aligned with the grooves, preventing unwanted lateral slip. There are also specially placed friction points to provide even better stability, allowing the user to mimic their natural gait as they explore.

The Omni is ready to play out of the box with any game that uses keyboard or gamepad input. Integrated hardware translates movements to keyboard functions, as determined by the individual user. Ring height and belt size are adjustable for any user, though it best accommodates users between 4’8” - 6’5”. Best of all, the Omni is easily collapsed and stored, and takes up less space than a treadmill.

While our primary focus is on bringing virtual reality to video games, we foresee a variety of future applications for our technology — the most obvious being fitness. Playing video games using the Omni will significantly increase the physical activity of many gamers, before even introducing a conscious fitness element. The Omni is Microsoft Kinect-enabled, and our software tracks miles run and calories burned.

Beyond gaming and fitness, the Omni has applications in training and simulation (most notably, military ground combat training), healthcare and physical therapy, architectural design, virtual tourism, immersive education of historical events and sites, virtual trade shows, meet-ups, and interactive adventures.

While the Omni works out of the box with existing games, our technology provides game developers with exciting new motion functions that do not exist yet in current games: analog walking speed of the user matching the user's speed on the Omni, absolute walking orientation independent of the looking orientation, position of both feet, jump and strafe detection, and more. We are developing a game designed specifically for the Omni, TRAVR, to provide an Omni-optimized template for other developers to design Omni-compatible games of their own. The Omni gaming experience will far exceed any existing gameplay in current games.

After two years of research, development, and prototyping, we’re finally in the home stretch for launching the Omni. Our wildly successful crowdfunding campaign is one of Kickstarter’s top ten raises to date — further evidence that consumers are ready for an in-home virtual reality experience. Below are a few more of our most notable accomplishments.

To date we’ve sold nearly 3,000 Omnis, despite still being in pre-production stage

We continue to receive paid pre-orders every day on the Virtuix website

We anticipate beginning shipping all pre-orders in May 2014

7 individuals and corporations wanted instant access to our technoloy and paid $7,500 - $12,000 per unit for custom-made, priority prototypes
